DEAD MISSISSIPPI MAN BEGINS BREATHING IN EMBALMING ROOM, CORONER SAYS

(CNN) -- Even in the Bible Belt, coroners don't use the word "miracle" lightly.
But Holmes County, Mississippi, Coroner Dexter Howard has no qualms using the word for the resurrection, as it were, of Walter Williams, who was declared dead Wednesday night.
Howard received the call from Williams' hospice nurse, who told Howard that the 78-year-old had passed away. A family member called as well, saying the same, Howard said.
Howard and Byron Porter from Porter & Sons Funeral Home in Lexington, Mississippi, drove to Williams' home to collect the body for funeral preparations. Howard checked Williams' pulse about 9 p.m. and pronounced him dead.
"There was no pulse. He was lifeless," Howard said.
The coroner completed his paperwork, placed Williams in a body bag and transported him to the funeral home, he said. There, something strange happened: The body bag moved.
"We got him into the embalming room and we noticed his legs beginning to move, like kicking," Howard said. "He also began to do a little breathing."
They immediately called an ambulance. Paramedics arrived and hooked Williams up to monitors. Sure enough, he had a heartbeat, so they transported him to the Holmes County Hospital and Clinics.
"They were in shock. I was in shock. I think everybody at the hospital was in shock," Howard said.
Howard is an elected official and not a doctor. More than 1,500 counties in the United States elect coroners and most don't require medical degrees.
Neither in his 12 years as county coroner nor during his decade as deputy coroner has Howard seen anything like it. Howard was absolutely certain Williams was dead.
The only reasonable explanation he could think of, Howard said, is that Williams' defibrillator, implanted beneath the skin on his chest, jump-started his heart after he was placed in the body bag.
"It could've kicked in, started his heart back," Howard said. "The bottom line is it's a miracle."
Overjoyed family members are thanking God for saving the life of the longtime farmer they call "Snowball."
"So it was not my daddy's time," daughter Martha Lewis told CNN affiliate WJTV. "I don't know how much longer he's going to grace us and bless us with his presence, but hallelujah, we thank Him right now!"
Nephew Eddie Hester told CNN affiliate WAPT he was at Williams' Lexington home when Howard and Porter zipped up the body bag, so he was more than a little stunned when his cousin called at 2:30 a.m. Thursday and told him, "Not yet."
"What you mean not yet?" Hester recalled asking his cousin. "He said, 'Daddy's still here.' "
"I don't know how long he's going to be here, but I know he's back right now. That's all that matters," Hester told WAPT.
Howard visited Williams on Thursday at the hospital and said he was still "a little weak" but was surrounded by family members and talking.

Mike Murphy, the coroner for Clark County, Nevada, and past president of the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners, said he couldn't comment on this specific case without knowing all the details, but he's read news reports of people returning to life at funeral homes "from time to time."
Asked if he'd ever heard of a case in which a defibrillator played a role in bringing someone back to life, Murphy said he hadn't, "but just because I haven't heard it doesn't mean it hasn't happened."
CNN's Sean Kennedy contributed to this report.

11 WILDLIFE EXPERIENCES THAT COULD VANISH IN YOUR LIFETIME.

Poaching, war and deforestation threaten magnificent sights such as the annual pilgrimage of wildebeest across the African savannah.
1. Witnessing a great animal migration
Ancient rock art images of animals moving across the African savannah indicate that humans have been marveling at animal migrations for more than 20,000 years.
But poaching, agriculture, war and deforestation are encroaching on wildlife corridors around the world, placing these animal movements -- from Africa's wildebeest migration to the annual pilgrimage of North American bison -- under threat.
How to do it: GAdventures pairs good wildlife access with creature comforts on its Kenya Safari Experience tour (eight days from $3,490 per person; +1 888 800 4100), taking in Kenya's Lake Nakuru, Amboseli National Park and the Masai Mara, where Africa's wildebeest end their migration.
Climate change is melting polar bears' Arctic habitat -- you can still see them in the wild in places such as Canada's Hudson Bay.
2. Coming eye-to-eye with a polar bear
While hunting is still allowed by some Arctic-dwelling native communities, it's climate change that poses the largest threat to polar bears.
Latest data from the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) shows that eight of the 19 sub-populations of polar bear that roam the Arctic are in decline.
Scientists project that two-thirds of all polar bears could disappear by 2050.
Due to its southern exposure, Canada's Hudson Bay is one of the bear habitats most threatened by climate change -- increasing temperatures are forcing bears off the ice earlier each year.
How to do it: Churchill Wild (+1 866 846 945) is one of a handful of operators on the western shores of Hudson Bay that facilitate multi-day bear watching tours starting at around $3,000 per person.
3. Counting the stripes on a tiger
Tigers once roamed freely across Asia.
Today the world's most endangered big cats have disappeared from 90% of their historic range.
Just six of nine known tiger species are thought to remain, with an estimated 3,200 animals left in the wild.
While it's extremely rare to spot the elusive beasts in their natural habitat (the South China tiger, for example, hasn't been seen since the early 1970s), protected reserves in India and Nepal provide the best opportunities.
How to do it: Intrepid Travel offers a Chitwan Extension (four days from $430 per person; +1 800 970 7299) tour to Nepal's Chitwan National Park from Kathmandu.
Once a royal hunting reserve, Chitwan is home to elephant, rhino, crocodile, monkeys, deer and about 100 Bengal tigers.

4. Swimming amid live coral on Australia's Great Barrier Reef
The Great Barrier Reef, the world's largest reef system, is in peril.
Temperature fluctuations are primarily to blame for the disappearance of half its coral since 1985 and the Australian Institute of Marine Science predicts that less than a quarter could be left within a decade.
Following plans by the Australian government to industrialize parts of the reef, the World Heritage Committee passed a recommendation to consider listing the UNESCO site as "in danger" at a meeting in June 2014.
How to do it: Calypso Snorkel and Dive (+61 7 4099 6999) offers daily snorkeling and diving day trips to the reef from the Far North Queensland resort town of Port Douglas starting from $174 per person.
5. Tracking gorillas in the mist
Endemic to the forests of central Africa, both species of the world's largest primate have been decreasing in numbers for decades largely due to poaching and disease.
Worryingly, a 2010 United Nations report suggested that these gentle giants of the forest might disappear from large parts of the Congo Basin, one of their primary habitats, by the mid-2020s.
How to do it: Wilderness Collection offers gorilla tracking opportunities during a six-day tour, from $6,474 per person, split between two luxury Odzala camps (+27 11 807 1800) in an area of the Republic of the Congo that's home to a high density of western lowland gorilla.
Chimpanzee, leopard, golden cat and a large number of other primate and bird species are also present.
6. Seeing the creatures of Galápagos as Darwin saw them
Remaining virtually undiscovered for centuries did much to preserve the living showcase of evolution described by Charles Darwin in "The Origin of Species."
But Ecuador's best known ecosystem remains fragile.
The last remaining Pinta Island tortoise, fondly known as Lonesome George, died in 2012, adding to the list of several other species that have died out since Darwin's 1835 visit.
How to do it: While it's possible to fly to Galapagos from mainland Ecuador and visit several islands independently, you can only reach the bulk of protected habitats on heavily regulated organized cruises.
You can expect to pay from around $1,500 for a last-minute, week-long cruise organized in the capital Quito or Puerto Ayora on the island of Santa Cruz.
Prices double (or more) for the convenience of booking ahead through an international company such as Ecoventura (+1 800 633 7972).
Illegal pet trade is one of orangutans\' biggest threats.
Illegal pet trade is one of orangutans' biggest threats.
7. Hanging around with orangutans
Sharing 98% of our DNA, orangutans are one of the closest relatives to man, though if predictions are accurate, Asia's only two great ape species could be extinct in the wild within the next decade.
Conservation groups such as Borneo Orangutan Survival have bolstered numbers through rehabilitation and release programs, but the illegal pet trade, trafficking and habitat destruction still present the greatest threats to the survival of orangutans on the only two islands they inhabit: Borneo and Sumatra.
How to do it: Gecko's Adventures include a visit to two rehabilitation centers in Malaysian Borneo on their Orangutanland tour (18 days from $2,500; +44 0808 274 5981).
The trip includes a cruise down Kinabatangan River, where you might spot orangutans, proboscis monkeys, macaques and elephants in the wild.
8. Watching sea turtles nest
Scientists have been debating for decades why -- not to mention how -- sea turtles return to the same beach every year to lay their eggs.
But the phenomenon may soon be a thing of legend thanks to the ravages of intense egg collection, fisheries bycatch and light pollution, which have forced species such as the leatherback, hawksbill and green turtles onto endangered lists.
How to do it: You can sign up for a volunteering stint with an organization such as Earthwatch (nine-day Costa Rica program from $2,800 per person; +1 978 461 0081) during which you'll help safeguard turtle eggs and assist new hatchlings.
Minus rhinos, Big Five will become Big Four.
Minus rhinos, Big Five will become Big Four.
9. Spotting Africa's Big Five
European game hunters and the illegal wildlife trade may soon reduce Africa's most prestigious group of game animals from the legendary Big Five to four.
While lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo and leopard populations are relatively stable, rhinos are in serious trouble.
Poaching has increased dramatically during the past few years, with 800 rhinos killed illegally in South Africa in 2013 alone.
Last year, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) declared the western black rhino officially extinct.
How to do it: All members of the Big Five can still be found in Botswana, Uganda, Namibia, Ethiopia, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Malawi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
If you're particularly eager to see rhinos, Intrepid Travel's Okavango Experience (nine days from $1,155 per person; +1 800 970 7299) includes a dusk game drive in Botswana's Khama Rhino Sanctuary for a chance to spot both white and black rhino.
10. Swimming alongside whale sharks
Nicknamed "dominos" for their distinctive markings, the world's largest fish are among the most placid of the shark species.
Unfortunately, demand for whale shark meat, fins and oil, on top of unregulated tourism, remains an enormous threat to this vulnerable species.
How to do it: A WWF-sponsored ecotourism project in the Philippine village of Donsol allows tourists to swim with whale sharks while following strict rules to avoid disturbing them.
Donsol EcoTour (+63 2 576 5934) offers snorkeling packages with gear and a trained guide from around $25 per person.
11. Be awed by a giant panda in the wild
They're China's natural treasure, but threats from humans have left just 1,600 giant pandas in the wild.
High in the mountains of western China, the rarest member of the bear family plays a critical role in facilitating the growth and vegetation of the bamboo forests these placid beasts inhabit.
How to do it: Given the difficulty of spotting giant pandas in the wild, only a small number of tour operators exist.
The WWF-partnered Natural Habitat Adventures' Wild Side of China tour (13 days from $9,595 per person; +1 303 449 3711) includes a visit to China's Chengdu Giant Panda Base and rare access to a panda sanctuary to search for them in the wild.

SOME BORACAY RESORTS FOUND BUILDING TOO CLOSE TO SHORELINE

Some resorts in Boracay Island in Malay town, Aklan may have their structures demolished after they were found violating the a ban on building within 30 meters of the shoreline.
Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez and Interior and Local Government Sec. Mar Roxas, who led the inspection of the shoreline, found Boracay West Cove Resort violating the ease of shoreline rule defined by Presidential Proclamation 1064, a "24 Oras" report aired Friday said.
Proclamation 1064, signed in 2006, declares Boracay a protected area and prohibits construction within 30 meters from the shore.

Aside from violating the ease of shoreline rule, West Cove Resort was also found to have exceeded the Forest Land Use Agreement for Tourism (FLAGT) issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Under its FLAGT, West Cove establishments should not exceed 998 square meters and should not be constructed in a no-build zone.
The inspection revealed that West Cove establishments were built on natural rock formations and corals. The resort does not have a permit to operate from the local government either, “24 Oras” reported.
West Cove Resort owner Cris Aquino has denied violating the guidelines.
“Ever since, naka-declare 'yan sa DENR. Pinapaliwanag ko nga kay Secretary Mar Roxas... Wala naman silang court order, sana naman ipatupad sa lahat,” Aquino said.
Jimenez meanwhile maintained that West Cove committed violations. “Mata na ang makakapaghusga na may mali dito,” he said.
Another establishment, Charlh's Bar, was also found violating the ease of shoreline rule. The bar is owned by a relative of Malay Mayor John Yap, “24 Oras” report said.
When the authorities went to the area for inspection, some structures were already dismantled. Unconfirmed reports said it was Yap himself who ordered the structures dismantled.
Roxas meanwhile vowed stricter implementation of the ease of shoreline rule to preserve Boracay, considered among the most beautiful beaches in the world.
“Importante ito dahil yung mga scientist mismo ang nagsasabi na kung walang setback sa baybayin, eventually mauuubos yung beach. Kailangan nabibigyan ng espasyo yung buhangin o yung beach para mag-replenish siya,” Roxas said.
Based on a technical survey in Boracay Island conducted by the DENR in 2012, 7 percent or 297 of the 3000 resorts and residential establishments in the island were found violating the 30-meter ease of shoreline rule.
These establishments have been given until March 15 to follow the rules or else they will be closed or have their structures dismantled.

2 FILIPINOS AMONG 12 DEAD IN QATAR RESTAURANT GAS EXPLOSION

Medics gather near a Turkish restaurant following a gas explosion in Doha February 27, 2014. Twelve people were killed, including two children, and about 30 wounded when a gas tank exploded at the Turkish restaurant in the Qatari capital off Doha on Thursday, authorities in the Gulf Arab state reported.

(Updated 6:00 a.m., Feb. 28) DOHA - Twelve people including two Filipinos and two children were killed on Thursday when a gas tank exploded at a Turkish restaurant in the Qatari capital Doha, authorities in the Gulf Arab state reported.

About 30 others, including two Filipinos, were injured in the blast at the Istanbul Restaurant that one security source said was accidental.

Qatar officials have also ruled out terrorism in the blast, radio dzBB's Qatar stringer Manny Flores reported early Friday.

The report cited information from the Philippine Overseas Labor Office indicating one of the fatalities was a worker in a grocery store.

Both Filipino fatalities' bodies remained at a morgue as of Friday, the report said.

The two wounded are in the intensive care unit of Hamad Hospital, the report added.

On the other hand, the report also said one of the wounded asked Philippine officials not to notify relatives at home as the Philippine national's mother has a medical condition.

Citing initial reports, Flores said authorities have yet to determine if the two Filipino fatalities were inside the restaurant or were just passing by when the explosion occurred.

The two wounded Filipinos were reportedly just passing by the area and were hit by debris.

Major General Saad bin Jassim al-Khalifi, Qatar's head of public security, said non-Qatari Arabs, Asians and one Qatari were among the dead and wounded.

Another security source at the scene said two Asian children were among the dead.

Preliminary investigation suggested a gas tank exploded, setting off a fire and causing part of the building to collapse, he told a news conference. But investigations were continuing to discover why the gas tank exploded.

"It was a very big blast," he said. "It blew away cars and shrapnel was scattered 50 to 100 meters away."

Chunks of masonry, metal debris and shattered glass lay outside the restaurant in a northwestern district of the city. Cars nearby were apparently crumpled by the explosion.

The incident was the deadliest in Qatar since May 2012, when at least 19 foreign nationals, including 13 children, were killed by a fire in an upscale shopping mall.

In a separate incident on Thursday, medics and security sources at the Hamad medical city in Doha said dozens of people were hurt in the afternoon due to a gas leak at a chemical plant in an industrial area near Doha.

They gave no figures or details on their condition, but said helicopters were dispatched to fly victims of the leak to the Hamad medical centre quickly as ambulances had been caught in heavy traffic caused by the restaurant incident.

The gas- and oil-rich Gulf Arab state with an estimated national population of at least 200,000 has one of the highest standards of living in the world. The bulk of the 2 million population of Qatar are foreigners.

The restaurant is on the outskirts of the capital near Landmark mall, a well-known shopping complex usually busy with families.

"I was eating in a restaurant close by and suddenly heard a big (blast) and everything around me exploded," Abdul-Rahman Abdul-Kareem, an Indian driver, told Reuters at Hamad hospital. "I have too much damage now, my legs are broken and my head is (wounded)."

LAWYER: VHONG RAPED ROXANNE BETWEEN APRIL 24-27, 2010

SAN MIG COFFEE BAGS PHILIPPINE CUP

Rain or Shine staged a dramatic walkout and returned to wage a mighty comeback but there’s no stopping the San Mig Coffee journey all the way to dreamland.

The San Mig Coffee Mixers completed one of the most unforgettable championship rides in PBA history as they conquered the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 93-87, in the action-packed and drama-fraught Game Six of the PLDT myDSL PBA Philippine Cup best-of-seven title series at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Wednesday night.
That Game Six triumph catapulted the Mixers to the very top after a struggling 1-5 start and a mere fifth-place finish in the eliminations.
San Mig Coffee defied odds against fourth ranked Talk n Text in the quarterfinals, versus top seed Barangay Ginebra in the semifinals and finally second seed Rain or Shine in the titular playoff to nail a first-ever back-to-back championships and an unprecedented sixth all-Filipino crown.
The Mixers were the lowest seeded team to emerge champion since the sixth-seeded Barangay Ginebra squad went all the way to the top  the 2004 Fiesta Conference.
Coach Tim Cone achieved a great personal milestone in finally surpassing Baby Dalupan’s record of 15 championships.
But for Cone, no one would ever surpass or even match Dalupan’s feat.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, no one would ever equal Baby. He’s one of the greatest in the world. Imagine 41 championships won in the UAAP, NCAA, MICAA and the PBA,” said Cone.
“I’m just thrilled to bring Baby Dalupan back in the consciousness of PBA fans. I’m thrilled to be part of his legacy,” Cone added.
As they had promised, the Elasto Painters fought to the very end, though putting up a stunt with a walkout attempt in the second quarter.
But no way would it tarnish San Mig Coffee’s great effort and triumph.
“The players are just awesome. They worked very hard for this,” said Cone. “Many times we could’ve quit or pulled out camp. There were so many opportunities to quit but we didn’t.”
Not in this game. Not Mark Barroca.
Barroca rose to the occasion in the crunch and won the PBA Press Corps Papa John’s Pizza Finals MVP award.
The former FEU stalwart and Gilas Pilipinas I campaigner took over the game at the finish, scoring 14 of his game-high 24 points in the fourth quarter.
Ian Sangalang, Joe Devance, Marc Pingris and James Yap had their moments as the Mixers delivered a sixth Philippine Cup championship for the Purefoods/San Miguel Foods franchise.
“It’s surreal. There are so many emotions in my mind right now it’s hard to sort out,” said Cone.
“I hope Ely (Capacio) is here to see this. In dinner with the big bosses, he would give me a big hug and say ‘I told you so,’” Cone also said. “I really wish he’s here to see this. He would be thrilled.”
A big part of the 20,337-strong crowd was thrilled.
The game was stopped for about 10 minutes at the outset of the second quarter with coach Yeng Guiao calling on his team to abandon the game in protest over what he felt was spotty officiating going against them.
But Guiao and the E-Painters returned to the floor after commissioner Chito Salud talked with team owner Raymond Yu and governor Mert Mondragon.
Under league rules on walkouts, Rain or Shine faces a possible heavy sanction for its walkout attempt. It’s P2 million if it’s ruled “a partial walkout.”
As the league commissioner ordered to start running the 15-minute grace period, the E-Painters were back on the bench and ready to return to play in 90 seconds.
At the resumption of play, the Mixers stretched a 30-17 lead to 49-32, but then the Elasto Painters found a way to get back into the game, 43-49, at the half.
The E-Painters roared on in the third period and surged ahead, 62-60, on a three-pointer by Chris Tiu.
Rain or Shine was the fourth team in league history to stage a walkout. Anejo Rum (P550,000 in 1990) and Talk n Text (P1 million in 2010) were heavily fined for walking out and refusing to finish a playoff game. Red Bull had its walkout attempt in 2006 but returned to play in time. (SB)

OPTICAL ILLUSIONS

If you stare at the following picture long enough,
you should see a giraffe...

giraffe

Gotcha!

What are illusions? Illusions trick us into perceiving something differently than it actually exists, so what we see does not correspond to physical reality. Hence, the word illusion comes from the Latin verbilludere meaning, "to mock." In addition, some illusions show us one thing in a picture, while someone else sees something entirely different in the same picture.

Research scientists must be sure that the results of their work are not "illusory" in nature. They need to accurately report what "is," rather than their general "impression" of "what is." So, many times a scientist will repeat an experiment many times, or in different laboratories, to ensure that their results were valid. Science is only "good science" when anyone can repeat the experiment and get the same results.

Looking up, or looking down?

If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot,
the dots will remain only one color, pink.
rotating pink dots
However if you stare at the black " +" in the center, the moving dots turns to green.
Now, concentrate on the black " + " in the center of the picture. After a short period, all the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will only see only a single green dot rotating.
It's amazing how our brain works. There really is no green dot, and the pink ones really don't disappear. This should be proof enough, we don't always see what we think we see.

Now let's play with some words...what do you see below?
good and evil intertwined in different colors
In black you can read the word GOOD;
but the word EVIL also appears in white letters inside each black letter.

Now what do you see?
OPTICAL in white and ILLUSION in blue landscape
You may not see it at first, but the white spaces create the word OPTICAL,
while the blue landscape spells out ILLUSION.

And what do you see below?
teach reflects as learn
This one is quite tricky! The word TEACH reflects as LEARN.

Last one of these -- what do you see?
ME reverses to YOU
You probably read the word ME in brown, but...
when you look through ME
you will see YOU!
Do you need to look again?

The Man in the Coffee Beans
The "illusion" is that this is just a picture of coffee beans; but it is not. Can you find a man's face among the beans? Some say that if you find the man in 3 seconds or less, the right half of your brain may be more well developed than most.
PS: This is not a trick. A man's face is really hidden among the beans.

Your eyes are making them move. To test this, stare at one spot in each picture for a few seconds and everything will stop moving; OR look at the black center of each circle in the first picture, and it will stop moving; but when you move your eyes to the next black center, the previous one will move after you take your eyes away from it.

And here is another type of illusion.
Count the people in the picture below.

VHONG NAVARRO'S CAMP TO FILE PERJURY AND LIBEL CHARGES AGAINST DENIECE CORNEJO, CEDRIC LEE

Vhong Navarro's legal counsel Atty. Alma Mallonga questions inconsistencies in Deniece Cornejo's rape complaint againt the actor-host. "In her first sworn statement, she categorically declared that nothing happened when Vhong visited her on the night of January 17, because in fact she was waiting for a friend. She’s in one part of the room and Vhong was in the living room in this very small condo. And when it became apparent that her friend would not arrive anymore, she told Vhong to leave very firmly. And that Vhong joked about it but he left and nothing happened," says Atty. Mallonga when asked to comment about Deniece's claim that Vhong raped her on two different occasions.
Alma Mallonga, legal counsel ni Vhong, “She has perjured herself effectively, three times.
“The first time was when she filed a rape complaint and said that Vhong raped her and the evidence shows it is not true.
“Secondly, she perjured herself again when she asserted that rape happened to support her petition for a protection order with the RTC [Regional Trial Court] in Taguig.
“The third time was when she asserted the falsehood that on January 17, a rape occurred, when in all her previous allegations she has categorically said nothing of that sort happened because she sent Vhong away.
“Given the consistency of her lying about this, how can she be believed at all?”
“During this time, I was still preoccupied with some work and did not join Kuya Vhong in the living area, which is why he commented to me, ‘Ano ba 'yan… magkikita tayo 'tapos trabaho nang trabaho. Hindi ka nag-e-entertain ah.’
