Piolo José Pascual (born January 12, 1977, Manila, Philippines) is a Filipino film and television actor, musician, model, and producer.
Early life
Piolo Pascual, born on January 12, 1977 at Manila, is the youngest son of Amelia "Amy" Nonato Pascual, and Philip Victoriano Pascual who is half-Spanish and half-German. Piolo's father was the son of Harold Herzig, a full-blooded German, and his Filipina wife with Spanish descent, Aurora Victoriano, thus explaining Piolo's Eurasian features. Harold Herzig, however, died while Piolo's father was young, which led to the remarriage of Piolo's grandmother to a Pascual.
While growing up, Piolo enjoyed a close bond with his siblings -- Chiqui, Paulette, Pam, Choi, and Patricia--despite their own father's early death. His father was a casting director for international films that are shot here in the Philippines, though Piolo can't recall if it affected his ambition on becoming an actor, ramp model or a performer. He lived an ordinary life; he went to school and spent time on outings and celebrations with his family. Piolo studied grade school and high school at St. Francis School in Santa Ana, Manila. When he was in Grade 5, Piolo joined the school theater group, Teatro Ni Kiko, wherein he was introduced to the world of theater and acting.
While he was in third year high school, Piolo started appearing in That's Entertainment, a popular teen variety show aired in the 1990's. He eventually left That's, however, to get into college full-time, studying at the University of Sto. Tomas (UST), where he took up AB General Education. He later shifted to Physical Therapy in preparation for his immigration to the States. Around 1996, however, Piolo had to put his study and career plans on hold due to his imminent migration to the US. Piolo joined his family in the US that year. They made their home in Los Angeles, where Piolo worked as an ER representative in a hospital where his mother is working. When Piolo turned 21, he decided to return to Manila in order to pursue his acting career once again.
Currently, Pascual is also the proud father of a 9-year-old son, Iñigo. His son lives with his family in the States, but father and son frequently keep in touch.[1]
Career
In 1994, Pascual started his career in That's Entertainment. Then he appeared in some TV shows including Mara Clara, and Gimik. His loveteam withJudy Ann Santos became phenomenal in early 2000s. Their four movies, Kahit Isang Saglit, Bakit Di Totohanin, Till There Was You, and Don't Give Up on Us, earned more than P100 million in the box office. His movie with Claudine Barretto, Milan, became his top grossing film up to date.[2]
In 2002, Pascual played the role of Jules in the award winning film, Dekada '70. He collected eight awards in the Best Supporting Actor category and was given special recognition for rare gram slam award as a Best Supporting Actor for the same role by the GMMSF Box-Office Entertainment Awards.[3]
In 2003, Pascual ventured into music with his debut album Piolo which became platinum. His second album My Gift hit Platinum status as well. His 5th solo album Timeless hit Triple Platinum status.
Pascual is a member of ABS-CBN's Star Magic. He celebrated his 10th year anniversary in 2007 with a coffee table book (Piolo: Believing), a fifth solo album (Timeless), and a solo concert in Araneta Coliseum.
In 2008, he starred in a fantasy tv series Lobo together with Angel Locsin. The show gained accolades from Banff World Media Festival andInternational Emmy Awards.
In 2009, Pascual turned producer with Manila, an independent twinbill film under Bicycle Pictures. After its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festivalin May 2009,[4] Manila had its official Philippines premiere on cinemas in July 2009 as the opening film of the 5th Cinemalaya Film Festival.[5][6] He starred in the Philippine version Lovers in Paris together with KC Concepcion in the same year. And together with some great directors and writers, Pascual made his film studio, Spring Films, which is known for its popular Kimmy Dora movie series.
of
In 2013, Pascual graced Cannes once again with the movie On The Job.
Personal life
He has a son Iñigo Lazaro Pascual who was born on September 14, 1997. Inigo currently lives in California with his mother. Piolo works in the Philippines to support his son. Pascual is also the uncle of the filipino actor Benjamin Alves.
