I know, these are probably not things that you hear very often, but I want you to hear them… They are important. You are important. Don’t just laugh and nod your head. Really try some of these =)
Be Yourself! God gave you special gifts to use to minister to the students He places in your ministry. If you’re trying to be something you’re not, you’re actually robbing your ministry of the authentic you. Relax! Be you! Be real! And use the gifts God gave you.
Say No (thank you). You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you… Philippians 4:13 says so! But if your “to do” list is a mile long, don’t take on one more task! You can only do a certain amount of things with excellence. Too much on your plate usually leads to crazy amounts of stress, missed deadlines and frustrated team members. Overload never leads to effectiveness.
Take A Day Off. Rest. Spend time with God. Have some quality time with friends and family. I love my job and can easily work every day and enjoy it. But having time away always gives me a fresh perspective and a renewed sense of energy. It makes me better! Take a day off. God doesn’t suggest it as an option for holy living, He commands it. (Exodus 20:8-11)
Ask For Help. It’s OK to ask for help! It doesn’t make you less of a leader… it makes you a BETTER leader! When you ask for help, you’re giving someone else a chance to experience the blessing of serving God through youth ministry. You’re not burdening them, you are blessing them! Plus, working with others makes things more fun! Try it! =)
THANK YOU! Thank you for all you do to make an impact on the lives of youth. You might not see immediate results and sometimes you may wonder if your students even care, but you ARE making a difference! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
