What's special about the Starmobile Diamond X1?

The year 2013 isn't even over, but Starmobile already has us looking forward to 2014 with the January availability of the Starmobile Diamond X1, the first Philippine-branded octa-core phone-slash-tablet.
Yes, the device will take advantage of eight CPU cores—twice the number of cores inside most flagship mobiles. Generally speaking, more cores means better computing and graphics performance, not to mention less work for each individual core.
It would be great to see if that's the case with the Starmobile Diamond X1.

Too bad the only other spec we know about the device is its six-inch screen, although we're guessing it will be using the new MediaTek MT6592 chipset, which features eight Cortex-A7 CPU cores running simultaneously between 1.7GHz and 2GHz, depending on the chip.
That's unlike the eight-core Exynos 5 chip present in some variants of the Samsung Galaxy S4 that doesn't use all eight cores at once.
Starmobile has promised to "send more details soon." Here's hoping "soon" will come, well, soon enough.
