MANILA - United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) secretary general Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco said Vice President Jejomar Binay was not invited to today's agenda-setting dialogue called by President Benigno Aquino III with his allies.
Asked by media, Tiangco said in a text message that both he and Binay were not invited to the dialogue.
House Speaker Sonny Belmonte and House Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales II both said Binay was not present but his daughter, Makati Representative Abigail Binay, joined the House delegation.
Congresswoman Binay is one of the majority leaders in the House and a member of the powerful committee on rules.
Gonzales and Belmonte both praised the President's message. "One of his best," said Belmonte in a text message.
The dialogue was held in Malacañang's biggest function area, the Rizal Hall.
The stellar cast of characters included Transportation Secretary Jun Abaya as emcee, Interior Secretary Mar Roxas as the one who introduced the President, Belmonte and Senate President Franklin Drilon who both gave separate opening remarks.
Spotted in the audience were various lawmakers like Senators Grace Poe, Bam Aquino, Antonio Trillanes, congressmen, members of the Aquino Cabinet, members of the Liberal Party, and allied groups like Akbayan and Black and White Movement.
The short program featured only the speeches of Belmonte, Drilon and Aquino. Nobody took the opportunity to ask questions during the open forum that was called.
